"Be anxious about nothing, but in everything,
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."
Philippians 4:6
I have had so many answers to prayer that I have lost count of them. Several of them related to prayers for housing. For some, the only word I can describe them with is "amazing". In some instances, answers were given via dreams, so check out the Dreams link as well! Here are just a few of my answers to prayer - more will be added.
Invisible Person in My Room
This is possibly the most amazing encounter I have ever had of the other realm. This involved both a supernatural encounter and an answer to prayer, so is included on both pages.
In 1995 I needed to find a bigger house to live in. I was recently separated with my six children in my care. We were offered 6 weeks in holiday accomodation. Then I got a rental house for 3 months. I was becoming weary of all the moving. I knew of a big 4-bedroom house that had recently become empty. I asked God for it. Found out it already had a prospective tenant, but the landlord said he would let me know if it didn't work out. A couple of weeks went by, and he called me back, said he had not heard from the other person at all, and I could have it. That in itself was an awesome answer to prayer and the children and I were thrilled!
That wasn't the end of it, though. We had not been there a week when a "for sale" sign went up in the front yard! I became quite stressed, wondering how I was going to keep finding housing for six children.
Over the next few nights, I tossed and turned, thinking about it. On the third night, as I lay worried, and was just starting to get drowsy, I became aware that there was a Person standing just inside my bedroom door. He was invisible and yet very real. Warmth and love emanated from this Presence, and I was drawn strongly as if by a magnet. I couldn't help myself. I was a bit scared, because the Person was invisible, and I tried to pull back, but the magnetism was too strong for me. As I moved towards Him, I felt a wind, and something that felt like leaves, as one might feel on a windy day underneath a tree in autumn, blowing at me, really quite strongly. I found myself repeating over and over again, involuntarily, "Wind of the Spirit, blow on me."
Next thing I knew, I was awake and it was bright morning. I felt completely at peace and no longer worried about the house. We continued to live there for the next year until I made the decision to move away to a city. At that time, the landlord told me that no one had even showed an interest in buying the house!
Variety in the Workplace
I had been married just a few years. Husband had finished his apprenticeship and was looking for a working niche he could settle in. He saw a position advertized, and it sounded awesome, so was very happy when he got it. However, after a short time, he became bored because of the repetitive routine. He liked to fix things. I was concerned because this job had a number of benefits for us as a family. So the next morning, I asked the Lord if something could break down so that he would have something different to do. Usually he would come home for lunch. But that day, he called to say he would not be coming home for lunch, because something had broken down and he needed to fix it. I laughed and shared with him how I had prayed.
The Lost Watch
One of my very first answers to prayer happened when I was 9 years old. My mother had visited Fiji, and had brought back gifts. I received a watch with a large face (actual watch-face pictured at right) and a wide, brightly-coloured strap.
Very soon afterwards, our family moved from the North Island of New Zealand to the South Island. Somehow I lost the watch. One day, I really wanted it. I looked and looked for it. Suddenly it occurred to me to pray about it. I asked God to help me find the watch. Instantly, the thought popped into my mind to check the pockets of an old overcoat that I didn't like very much and didn't wear very often. There, snuggled in a pocket, was the watch!
